PowerPhotonic is at the forefront of the high-energy laser industry with freeform, wafer-scale optics designed for use with some of the world’s highest, peak power, femtosecond lasers. Femtosecond optics are used in next-generation, ultra-short pulse (USP), high-peak-power, laser applications. To optimize these applications, beam shaping optics must have slowly varying, refractive, freeform surfaces; as USP beams can have issues with diffractive surfaces containing sharp features. The beam shaping optics must also be made from thin wafers of the purist grades of fused silica and optimised coatings. Recent independent Laser Induced Damage Threshold (LIDT) tests, using femtosecond laser sources, have shown that PowerPhotonic products deliver exceptionally good results – close to the intrinsic LIDT of the highest grades of fused silica.

Dr. Stephen Kidd, Head of Sales and Marketing at PowerPhotonic, explains, “Exceptional, high-energy pulse performance at Femtosecond widths is only possible using refractive designs, implemented using the highest quality, optics manufacturing process, with minimal material defects and near-zero contamination. Applications such as “cold” laser material processing, laser-induced inertial fusion and laser-directed energy systems all benefit from beam shaping and combining solutions that PowerPhotonic can now supply.”

PowerPhotonic’s unique Femtosecond optics demonstrate world-class laser performance and now leads the Femtosecond optics market.
